Winner of Cisco's Customer Satisfaction Excellence Award for the past four years, BEAR Data will design converged IP network infrastructures for large and small organizations that support both traditional IT services (i.e., voice, video, and data applications) and Cisco's energy management system.

By combining BEAR Data's IT infrastructure expertise with Cisco's Mediator, BEAR Data will enable its customers to realize the savings and increased productivity of interconnecting their network, storage access, and virtualization resources with their building, energy supply and energy demand. With the Mediator's network-based framework, a common, standards-based, open platform is created that allows enterprise applications, cloud services and building/IT systems to communicate. Protocol-agnostic, the Mediator extends the network to serve as an effective foundation for sustainability management.

NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP) creates innovative storage and data management solutions that help their customers reduce costs, maximize storage efficiency, and improve availability in virtual environments. NetApp saw an opportunity to significantly reduce energy consumption at its Sunnyvale, California headquarters, which has 1.2 million square feet of space in 10 buildings. By adding the Cisco Network Building Mediator, NetApp is able to collect data from multiple building systems, apply business rules, and to participate in the local gas company's demand-response events. In conjunction with other systems, Cisco Mediator helped NetApp reduce the energy consumption in its Sunnyvale location by 18 million kilowatt hours in 18 months. The demand-response payments from the utility funded the Cisco Network Building Mediator and other technologies.

Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG), the company that provides innovative Web search technologies that connect millions of people around the world with information every day, wanted to develop electricity from renewable sources using advanced solar thermal power, wind power technologies, and enhanced geothermal systems. With Mediator, Google has connected more than forty buildings, which required the networking of numerous disparate building control systems, metering and sub-metering systems, lighting controls, UPS systems, solar PV systems, fuel cells, power generators, irrigation systems, and weather stations that com¬municate under different protocols. Summary screens enable Google's facility manager to control how much energy is being produced using real-time data.

BEAR Data will offer Mediator licenses ranging from 250 to 5000 points to accommodate the needs of large and small deployments. Points are used to describe a single item of information in a building control system such as the temperature of a room, duct pressure of an air handling unit (AHU) and chiller water flow rate.
